Personal History
Dr. Stein was born and raised in Mexico City and graduated summa cum laude from the National Autonomous University of Mexico. Fluent in Spanish and Hebrew, Dr. Stein completed his internship and residency at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, GA. He subsequently completed a cardiology fellowship at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City where he co-authored numerous publications with the world-renowned cardiologist Dr. Valentin Fuster. He then returned to Emory University and completed a fellowship in interventional cardiology at the Andreas Gruentzig Cardiovascular Center, Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.
Upon completion of his interventional cardiology fellowship, Dr. Stein was appointed director of cardiac catheterization laboratories and interventional cardiology at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. Dr. Stein joined Clearwater Cardiovascular Consultants in August 1993. He is board-certified in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology and is currently the Director of both the Morton Plant Hospital inpatient and outpatient Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories. He has participated in multiple physician leadership training programs at BayCare Healthcare and has a special interest in strategies to improve efficiency and reduce costs in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary interventions.
Dr. Stein is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and has held advisory positions with the Florida Chapter of the American College of Cardiology serving as area councilor. He has held teaching faculty appointments at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, and the University of South Florida College of Medicine. In addition to his many accomplishments and accolades in the field of interventional cardiology, Dr. Stein has been honored by the Maimonides Society of the Jewish Federation of Pinellas County in recognition of his philanthropy and service to the community. Dr. Stein received the Lifetime Achievement Award from Morton Plant Mease Health Care.
